Throughout February and the Lenten Season our Sunday worship themes focus on Love.
On February 7 I will be attending a conference in Destin, Florida and Pastor Arlyn Tolzmann will be the guest pastor. He and his wife Jeanne recently moved to the Elgin area from Colorado, after retiring from many years of ELCA ministry together.
On February 14, Transfiguration Sunday and Valentine’s Day, our new Environmental Task Force led by Marti Jernberg emphasize the theme “Love the Earth.”
On February 21, the First Sunday in Lent, we begin a Sunday Sermon Series on “The Love Attitudes.”Please see the Lenten/Holy Week Schedule elsewhere in this Crossings that details entire series. It is based on the well-known Love chapter in 1 Corinthians 13.Each Sunday 2-3 dramatic readers will introduce the day’s theme with a brief skit with my message to follow.Peg Youngren and I are seeking children, youth, and adults to participate in the skits. Please let us know if you are interested.
The Mid-Week Lenten services begin on Ash Wednesday, February 21.Messages throughout Lent will focus on the “I AM…” sayings of Jesus with a brief skit by2-3 BLC members, followed by my short Bible Study presentation on the saying of Jesus. The enclosed Lenten series schedule provides additional details.Again, please let Peg or me know if you would like to be in a skit.
Taken together our Sunday and Mid-week worship services seek to: (a) increase our awareness of God’s love for us in Jesus Christ (“I AM”), (b) encourage us to share God’s Love with others by “Love Attitudes”, and (c) involve members in worship by word and sacrament in dramatic settings.
It will be a good season to celebrate and give thanks for God’s Love as “Together in Christ we are growing, sharing and serving.”
