Christ is Risen!He is Risen Indeed!Easter Sunday on April 4 begins a new season of celebrating Christ’s Resurrection and the new life we receive through our Lord.
Some highlights from our Lenten to Easter journey have included Wednesday and Sunday worship services with dramatic reading skits, special music by BLC members and the Act of Grace group, and messages based on the I AM sayings of Jesus and the Love Chapter 1 Corinthians 13.Heartfelt thanks to musicians, readers, Lenten supper hosts, Boy Scouts for the pancake breakfast on Palm Sunday, and all attending worship and providing floral tributes on Easter.Thanks too to the BLC Youth Mission team and leaders for their Pasta supper and program in March.
On March 7 the Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders hosted Come to the Table:Become a Volunteer at Judson University.Twenty three social service agencies provided volunteering information to attendees.One hundred Haiti Relief Kits were assembled.Operation Home front volunteers assisted people to prepare letters of support to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.Major Ken Nicolai of the Salvation Army received recognition for assembling over 3,000 volunteers to prepare over one million meals on February 20 and 21 for Haiti earthquake victims.Forty BLC members helped in the meal preparations and twelve BLC members attended the Come to the Table Event.
Welcome to new members being received on Palm Sunday and congratulations to fifth graders celebrating their first communion later in April.
April 11 will be Holy Humor Sunday, a traditional emphasis as we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin, death, and the devil.April 18 will emphasize our new life in Christ and care of creation.April 25 is Good Shepherd Sunday and the shepherding ministries of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois will receive special mention and support.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Milt Johnson and Don Tangman.They passed during their Lenten journey to go and be with the Lord.
We are pleased to have Cathy Selpien return to the church office as our administrative assistant and thank Cindy Lange and other volunteers for their assistance during Cathy’s absence for medical reason.
